Trade School launches it's concert series with two of our favorite LA-based Experimental Music composers: Liam Mooney and Sepand Shahab. Shahab will present three new works in advance of a classic, non-percussive, long-form work for drum kit by Mooney.
Liam Mooney is a musician who composes for noisy, unwieldy wind and percussion instruments. This often relies upon the use—and misuse—of familiar objects and materials, such as balloons, vacuum cleaners, dry ice, triangles, rubber bands, drums, styrofoam, and pipes and tubes of all sorts. He currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
I was born in Tehran but have been living in the US since the age of one.  I have an MFA in composition from CalArts but these days I do less strict composing and more participatory pieces or whimsical interactive installations.  I run the fledgling and incredibly inconvenient event series Rehearsals on the River, and I have been in residence with the US Forest Service in Alaska (2013) and at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program (2011).  I play the harpsichord and aside from experimental music and baroque music, I enjoy the music of Beethoven, Mahler, and Blawan.
