Can I Work With You?

Please get in touch with us at info@gototradeschool.org so we can figure out what might be possible. Trade School is a community arts center that emphasizes collaboration with independent creative workers in Los Angeles. Collaborative inquiries for Trade School include individuals’ expression of interest in working with us to curate, produce, and celebrate creative labor. If you have a seed of an idea for a project, event, or workshop/workshop series, this option is for you.

Examples

  • You want to perform at our space

  • You are interested in working with us to develop an event, class, etc.

  • You are part of a community organization with limited/no budget

  • You want to collaborate with other workers

This option has its own donation-based, tiered payout agreement that we are happy to provide to you by email.

Can I Use Your Space?

Please shoot us an email at info@gototradeschool.org to let us know what you’re thinking. Trade School provides a space for creative workers and community organizations to rent for the development and implementation of their own ideas, events, and programming. Rental Inquiries for Trade School include individuals’ and/or organizations’ expression of interest in using our space for their own creative labor. Whether you need a space with a desk (or a big empty room) to work or have a fully developed idea for a workshop/performance, this option is for you. We have a sliding scale to accommodate all income levels and organizational budgets.

Examples

  • You have a full lineup of performers for an event

  • You have a fully developed workshop or series of workshops on any topic

  • You are part of a community organization with budget for space rental

  • You are not interested in collaborating, just in using the space

This option has its own donation-based, tiered payout agreement that we are happy to provide to you by email.

How Does Payment Work?

Creative labor at Trade School is funded in-part via low-cost, suggested donations from attendees. Donations typically take two forms: 1) a discounted RSVP donation rate ending the day before the event (example: $10); 2) a non-discounted Door donation rate available the day of the event (example: $15). All events at Trade School are NOTAFLOF (no one turned away for lack of funds).

Is Trade School ADA Compliant?

Trade School’s programming endeavors to be as inclusive as possible to people with disabilities. With a little advance notice (or even a conversation the day of a workshop or event), we can adjust certain elements of our space–furniture, lighting, sound, and ventilation–to the maximum extent feasible to accommodate our diverse community. Our entrance is accessible by wheelchair, and we have a ramp for the back exit stairs that we can install as needed. Unfortunately there is no dedicated disability parking out front, but if you get in touch with us ahead of your visit we can work with our neighbors to ensure you get a parking spot very nearby.

Our building, which was constructed in the 1930s and last renovated prior to 1991, does not currently meet ADA standards in that it includes architectural barriers to accessibility. Our bathroom is not ADA compliant, and we are in the process of locating one nearby–however, as many adjacent buildings were destroyed during the Eaton Fire, this may take some time. Renovating our space to comply with accessibility standards is unfortunately not readily achievable at this time, but we are always on the lookout for funding sources that may make this possible in the future.

Our website meets a11y guidelines as well as contrast levels to ensure digital accessibility.

If you have any questions about accessibility or suggestions to help make Trade School more accessible, please get in touch at info@gototradeschool.org.

What should I keep in mind when working with/at Trade School?

Code of Conduct/Being Good Neighbors

Loud activity (any activity that is clearly audible from across the street when Trade School’s doors are closed) must respect the beginning of LA County’s “quiet hours” (10pm). Maximum number of sets/performances (under normal circumstances) is 3. We need to be involved in curating events at Trade School and reserve the right to make necessary changes to event plans in response to community concerns at any time.

Artists participating in Trade School events represent our organization and must adhere to a code of conduct as part of their continued presence at the space. This includes being respectful to our neighbors. We have a zero tolerance policy for artists being rude/disrespectful to anyone in our community.
